YouTubers Claim Margaritaville at Sea Banned Them After Viral Negative Review

Imagine trying to book a cruise line again years after a rough sailing, only to find out you may have been blocked for telling the truth the first time.

That’s the controversy now blowing up in the cruise world after YouTubers Travel Spree said they tried to book another Margaritaville at Sea cruise for 2026 and kept hitting a wall. After repeated failures online, they say a call to customer support revealed the real issue: their names had allegedly been flagged because of their earlier negative review.

It Apparently Started With Their 2023 Review

The dispute goes back to Travel Spree’s 2023 sailing on Margaritaville at Sea Paradise.

The pair documented the sailing in both a longer-form video and a shorter video clip shared across YouTube and TikTok, but it was the short version that really exploded. That clip spread fast because it condensed their biggest complaints into a quick, punchy format that was easy to share. Reports say it reached about 10 million views and pulled huge attention after the creators showed parts of the ship they felt looked rough, dirty, or just plain disappointing. Coverage at the time highlighted some pretty specific complaints, including a trash can reportedly filled with used toilet paper, a rusted shower drain, and what the creators described as an unpleasant smell in the cabin.

Travel Spree have also said they paid for that cruise themselves and weren’t brought on as part of any media deal. In their recent update, they stood by what they posted, saying, “We made a video. It got a result.” They added, “We just showed you guys what our real experience was.”

They Say They Were Trying To Give The Line Another Shot

What makes this story hit a little harder is that Travel Spree say they weren’t trying to stir up a second round of drama.

According to their recent update, they wanted to sail one of Margaritaville at Sea’s newer ships, including Islander, and see whether the experience had improved. As they put it, “We wanted to give it a fair shot… our audience wants to know what it’s like now.”

In the video, they said the trouble started as soon as they tried to book online using their real names and personal details. Each time, the reservation process stopped and pushed them to contact customer support instead. They said they tried different sailings and even different ships, but kept running into the same issue. What really raised eyebrows was that when they tested the booking system using another name, it reportedly went through.

That led to the phone call that turned suspicion into something much more specific. According to the recording they shared, the customer support representative told them, “the system shows me this is a guest locked… you’re not allowed to board a cruise.” When they pressed for a reason, the rep allegedly added that it was “something about… bad reviews.”

Their reaction was blunt: “So basically, because we didn’t have a good experience, they blocked us from getting on the ship again.”

The Cruise Community Has Split Fast

Reaction online has been all over the place.

A lot of commenters have criticized the reported move, saying it makes the cruise line look thin-skinned and turns an old review into a fresh PR problem. Others have taken the opposite view and argued that any business can choose to refuse service to people it believes damaged its brand.

That split gets at a bigger issue in cruise content right now. Cruise lines work closely with influencers, but viewers still want reviews that feel honest and unscripted. So when a creator says a bad review led to a ban, people start asking how much trust they should place in glowing coverage.

Why This Story Feels Bigger Than One Booking Problem

Even if this ends up being a one-off, it taps into a real fear around cruise content: what happens when honest criticism costs you access?

Travel Spree say they aren’t trying to turn this into a pity story. “We’re not trying to play the victims here… we take accountability,” they said. But they also admitted they were surprised by where that honesty appears to have led, saying, “I never realized that being so honest in a review could actually get you banned from a cruise line.”

For creators, this is the risk that comes with posting to a big audience. For cruise lines, it raises a different problem. If negative feedback gets punished while praise gets welcomed, readers are going to start side-eyeing the whole review scene.

Even so, Travel Spree say there’s no major bitterness on their side. “We’re not mad at them… there’s no hard feelings,” they said. “We’d still like to try the new ships.” For now, though, their only firsthand sailing with the line remains the one that went viral — and the debate around it has suddenly become a lot louder.
