Norwegian Cruise Line has made two guest-friendly updates to its package offerings, giving passengers more flexibility with both specialty dining and Starbucks purchases.
From August 26, 2026, the Free at Sea specialty dining benefit can cover more than the first two people sharing a cabin. A separate change introduced on July 1 also lowered the age requirement for Norwegian’s Unlimited Starbucks package and made it possible for guests to purchase it individually.
The changes could be particularly useful for families and larger groups who don’t all want or need the same extras.
Norwegian Expands Free At Sea Dining To More Cabin Guests
Norwegian Cruise Line has widened access to the specialty dining benefit that comes with Free at Sea.
Beginning August 26, 2026, eligible guests sharing the same stateroom can receive the benefit regardless of whether they are listed first or second on the booking. It can now apply to Guests 1 through 8, meaning as many as eight people in one cabin may be covered.
Before the change, Norwegian generally limited the included specialty dining benefit to the first two guests on the reservation.
That could leave families or groups sharing a cabin paying separately for specialty meals for Guest 3 and anyone listed after them.
The new policy removes that limitation, making the dining portion of Free at Sea more useful for reservations involving several passengers.
How Many Specialty Dining Meals Guests Receive
The length of the sailing still determines how many specialty meals are included.
On cruises lasting two to four nights, eligible guests receive one meal. Five- and six-night sailings include two meals, while cruises of seven or eight nights include three. Sailings of nine nights or more come with four specialty dining meals.
So, Norwegian hasn’t increased the meal allowance itself.
What has changed is the number of people in the stateroom who may qualify for that allowance. Instead of stopping with the first two guests, the benefit can now extend further across the cabin booking.
Norwegian Also Changed Its Unlimited Starbucks Package
Norwegian made another package adjustment earlier in the summer, this time involving its standalone Unlimited Starbucks offering.
The minimum purchase age dropped from 18 to 13 on July 1, 2026.
Another restriction was removed at the same time. Guests no longer have to buy the Starbucks package for every eligible person included on the reservation. It can instead be purchased for just the individual who wants it.
That could make a noticeable difference for families and groups.
For example, a 13-year-old who regularly orders Starbucks can now have the package without the other eligible people sharing the reservation also having to pay for one.
What The Unlimited Starbucks Package Includes
Guests aged 13 and older can purchase the Unlimited Starbucks package either before departure or after boarding the ship.
The package belongs solely to the guest who purchases it, so it cannot be passed to another traveler or used to buy drinks for someone else. Norwegian also states that it is non-transferable and non-refundable.
Each transaction is limited to one eligible beverage for the package holder.
Drinks covered by the package include Starbucks coffee, tea and Refreshers when served by the cup. Bottled and canned beverages aren’t covered, and neither are Starbucks food products or merchandise.
Passengers can use the benefit at participating Starbucks locations aboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships. It also works at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas.
Harvest Caye in Belize is excluded, however, and the Unlimited Starbucks package isn’t offered on sailings of two days or less.
Norwegian also adds a 20% gratuity when the package is purchased.
The Changes Follow A Wider Shake-Up Of Norwegian’s Packages
Both updates come after a number of adjustments to Norwegian’s package lineup.
For reservations made from November 5, 2025, the cruise line returned to the Free at Sea name for its included benefits program.
Norwegian later added Free at Sea Plus, an upgraded option combining several additional perks. Those include Unlimited Starbucks, unlimited streaming Wi-Fi, upgraded beverages and prepaid service charges.
The latest dining and Starbucks changes add another layer of flexibility.
Passengers sharing a reservation now have more freedom over who receives the specialty dining benefit and who purchases the separate Starbucks package, which could make both options more practical for families and groups traveling together.
