Princess Cruises isn’t just going bigger. It’s launching a whole new class of ships.

The line has signed agreements for three new Voyager-class ships with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, with deliveries planned for late 2035, 2038, and 2039. Princess is describing Voyager as a new class, even though it will build on what the line introduced with Sphere class.

That’s an important distinction because there aren’t any Voyager-class ships sailing yet. Sun Princess and Star Princess are Sphere-class ships, not Voyager-class ships, and Princess doesn’t appear to have any other ships currently under construction beyond these newly ordered vessels.

The New Ships Will Be Bigger Than Sun and Star Princess

Each Voyager-class ship will measure 183,000 gross tons and carry about 4,700 guests. That makes them larger than Sun Princess and Star Princess, which come in at about 177,800 gross tons and 4,300 guests. So yes, Princess is stepping into even bigger-ship territory here.

That matters because Sun Princess and Star Princess already marked a pretty major shift for the brand. Now Princess is using that momentum to launch an entirely new class and go even bigger.

Princess Says These Ships Won’t Just Be Bigger

Princess says the new ships will keep some of the line’s highest-rated ideas and venues, but with reworked outer decks, staterooms, and Piazza spaces. In other words, this doesn’t sound like a copy-and-paste job. It sounds like Princess wants these ships to feel familiar, but fresher.

Princess president Gus Antorcha said the Voyager class will “delight both our loyal guests” while also attracting “the next generation.” He also said Princess has been using guest and travel advisor research to help shape what comes next.

That’s probably the big takeaway right now. Princess isn’t just adding capacity. It’s trying to update the experience in a way that keeps longtime fans happy without making the brand feel stuck.

They’ll Run On LNG And Be Built In Italy

Like Sun Princess and Star Princess, the new ships will be dual-fuel vessels powered primarily by liquefied natural gas. Princess says LNG cuts air emissions compared with more widely used conventional marine fuels. All three ships will be built at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero described the deal as a “long-standing and forward-looking partnership” and said the order helps secure work for the company’s shipyards through 2039. Princess is one of the cruise brands owned by Carnival Corporation, the parent company behind several major cruise lines. Princess also said these ships will become Carnival Corporation’s 19th, 20th, and 21st LNG-based vessels.

What We Still Don’t Know

Right now, Princess hasn’t shared ship names, deck plans, or the full list of features that will set Voyager class apart. The line says more details on the design, onboard venues, and amenities will be released later.

So, for now, this story is really about scale. Princess is going bigger than it ever has before, and while the fun details are still under wraps, the message is already pretty clear: the line sees larger ships, newer tech, and updated public spaces as a big part of its future.
