A day in Santorini usually means whitewashed buildings, steep cliff views, and guests heading ashore with cameras ready.
For passengers on Enchanted Princess, May 15, 2026 also brought a very unexpected scene back on board: water pouring into the ship’s atrium.

Video updates shared by travelwiththetylers on Instagram showed water coming from above Deck 6 and spreading through part of the central public area. The footage quickly caught attention online, partly because an atrium leak on a cruise ship is hard to ignore, even when the ship itself is safely docked.
The good news is that the situation appears to have been handled quickly. No injuries have been reported, and the ship’s sailing has not been reported to have changed because of the incident.
Water Was Seen Pouring into the Atrium
The leak happened while Enchanted Princess was docked in Santorini during a Mediterranean and Aegean sailing.
Videos shared by Travel with the Tylers showed water falling from the ceiling around Deck 6 and moving into the lower atrium area. In some clips, water could be seen running across the floor and down nearby stairs, leaving visible standing water in parts of the area.
Crew members were seen responding around the affected area with wet floor signs, towels, buckets, and other cleanup supplies. Parts of the atrium were blocked off while staff worked to control the water and keep guests away from slippery flooring.
While any water leak inside a ship can look worrying at first, the available updates suggest this was a plumbing-related issue rather than anything affecting the ship’s ability to sail.
The Leak Was Reportedly Linked to a Pool Pipe
According to updates shared by Travel with the Tylers, the leak was believed to have been caused by a pipe connected to the ship’s pool system.
That detail matters because videos of water falling through several levels of a cruise ship can easily lead to bigger concerns online. A pool pipe issue is still a serious onboard maintenance problem, but it’s very different from a hull breach, engine problem, or anything involving seawater entering the ship.
There has not been a public statement from Princess Cruises that we’ve seen at the time of writing, so the reported cause should be treated as coming from the passenger updates rather than an official cruise line announcement.
Enchanted Princess is a Royal-class Princess Cruises ship with a listed guest capacity of 3,660 at lower berths. With a central atrium, bars, lounges, restaurants, and guest services all nearby, even a contained leak in this part of the ship is likely to draw plenty of attention.
Crew Worked Quickly To Clean The Area
One point that came through clearly in the passenger updates was praise for the crew.
Travel with the Tylers said crew members did a strong job cleaning up the area while many guests were off the ship in Santorini. That timing may have helped reduce the impact on passengers, as a large number of people would have been ashore during the port call rather than moving through the atrium.
After the leak was stopped, industrial dryers were placed around the affected areas to help dry carpets and flooring. Some spaces also remained sectioned off while the crew checked wiring for possible damage, made necessary repairs and made sure the area was safe to reopen.
The Sailing Appears To Be Continuing As Scheduled
The incident took place during a 7-night Mediterranean and Aegean cruise that departed Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, on May 12, 2026. The itinerary included calls in Naples, Santorini, Kusadasi, and Katakolon before returning to Civitavecchia on May 19.
There has been no reported itinerary delay linked to the leak, and Enchanted Princess has continued the voyage as planned.
For guests onboard, the incident was likely most disruptive for those trying to pass through or use the affected atrium spaces. But based on the available updates, it does not appear to have caused a wider shipwide issue.
That’s often the case with cruise ship plumbing problems. They can be messy, disruptive, and very public when they happen in a main guest area, but they can also be isolated and repaired without changing the ship’s overall schedule.
Why These Incidents Get So Much Attention
Cruise ships are surrounded by water, filled with pools and hot tubs, and packed with plumbing systems behind the walls and ceilings. Most guests never think about any of that until something goes wrong in a very visible place.
An atrium leak is especially eye-catching because it happens in one of the busiest and most photographed parts of the ship. It’s not a hidden crew-only maintenance area. It’s where guests meet, drink, listen to music, visit guest services, and pass through throughout the day.
Still, the response from the crew appears to have kept the situation under control. The area was marked, cleanup was underway quickly, and follow-up updates suggested the ship was able to carry on without a major disruption to the cruise.
For passengers who were ashore in Santorini at the time, some may have returned without realizing anything had happened at all. For those who later saw the videos online, the scene may have looked concerning at first, but available updates suggest it was contained without causing major disruption to the sailing.
