Princess Cruises has become the first global cruise line to launch its own native app within ChatGPT.

The new integration lets travelers search for Princess cruises and narrow down their options through a conversation with ChatGPT, rather than relying solely on traditional cruise searches.

It’s a new approach to cruise planning, and Princess already has plans to take the technology beyond ChatGPT.

If you’ve ever found yourself with 15 cruise tabs open while trying to compare itineraries, you can probably see the appeal.

Princess Cruises Brings Cruise Planning Into ChatGPT

Princess Cruises has launched its own native app within ChatGPT, giving travelers a new way to research and plan a cruise through a normal conversation.

Princess describes itself as the first global cruise line to offer a native app in ChatGPT. The app connects ChatGPT directly with information and services from Princess, including current cruise pricing and availability.

That means travelers can ask questions about potential cruises without having to start a new search every time their plans change.

For example, someone considering an Alaska cruise could start by looking at available sailings before narrowing the results to cruises departing from Seattle or itineraries that visit Glacier Bay National Park.

The app currently covers more than 330 destinations across Princess Cruises’ 17 ships.

It’s not intended to replace Princess’s existing booking system. Instead, it gives travelers another way to discover and compare cruises while remaining connected to the cruise line’s booking ecosystem.

What Travelers Can Do With the Princess App

The Princess app is designed to handle much of the research travelers might normally do across several different pages.

Users can search for cruises based on destination, departure date and length. They can also compare Princess ships and itineraries, look into ports and shore excursions, explore cruisetours and onboard experiences, and check package options.

Pricing and availability can also be checked through the app, with information coming directly from Princess.

One of the more useful features is the ability to keep narrowing down a search through follow-up questions.

For example, a traveler interested in Japan could start by looking for cruises next spring. From there, they could ask about the ports on a particular itinerary, explore available shore excursions and compare different sailings that fit their dates.

The same approach could be used for other destinations, ships or specific experiences. Rather than entering all your requirements into a new search each time, ChatGPT keeps the conversation going as you refine what you’re looking for.

How to Access Princess Cruises in ChatGPT

Travelers who want to try the new Princess app can access it through ChatGPT.

Princess says users can add its app from the Plugins section in ChatGPT. Once connected, they can bring Princess into a conversation by using @princesscruises and then asking what they’re looking for.

That could be something broad, such as finding a Princess cruise to Japan next spring, or a much more specific request involving particular dates, destinations or ships.

From there, travelers can continue the conversation with follow-up questions to narrow down their options.

Why Princess Is Moving Into AI Cruise Planning

Princess says the launch reflects a change in how people are using AI when researching travel.

Rather than simply asking tools like ChatGPT for basic information, travelers are increasingly using them to compare options and work through more complicated vacation plans.

Neena Vicente, Princess Cruises’ vice president of digital commerce and experience, said the company is seeing “a broader shift in travel discovery” as consumers increasingly use generative AI to evaluate their choices and plan trips.

For Princess, putting its own app inside ChatGPT creates another place for potential guests to begin researching a cruise, while allowing the cruise line to provide its own information on itineraries, pricing and availability.

OpenAI also sees travel planning as one area where conversational AI can help people go beyond simply finding information.

“We’re building ChatGPT to help people move from discovery to action,” said Rosemary DeAragon, head of technology and consumer industries at OpenAI.

Princess Plans to Take the App Beyond ChatGPT

ChatGPT may be the first home for Princess’s new AI cruise planning app, but the cruise line doesn’t intend for it to be the only one.

Princess says it plans to make the app available on additional compatible AI platforms in the future, subject to availability and technical requirements.

The cruise line hasn’t announced which platforms could be next or provided a timeline for the expansion.

For now, ChatGPT is the starting point. But the plans suggest Princess sees AI-assisted cruise planning as more than a one-platform experiment, with the potential for travelers to eventually access its cruise information through other AI services as well.
