Princess Cruises is returning to the Amazon River for the first time in 14 years, bringing back a destination that has been missing from its cruise schedule since 2014.

The return is part of the cruise line’s newly announced 2028–2029 Americas season, which includes more than 250 departures across the Caribbean, North America, South America and Antarctica.

Among the new sailings is a 64-day voyage aboard Coral Princess that will take passengers around South America, visiting the Amazon River, Antarctica and the Panama Canal during the same trip.

Princess Cruises Returns to the Amazon After 14 Years

Princess Cruises last visited the Amazon River in 2014, when Pacific Princess sailed through the region. Now, the cruise line is bringing the destination back as part of its expanded South America schedule.

The 2028–2029 season will include 13 South America departures across 11 itineraries, operated by Coral Princess and Majestic Princess. Between them, the ships will visit 38 destinations in 16 countries.

Selected sailings will feature scenic cruising along the Amazon River, giving passengers the chance to experience the region from their ship. The itineraries will also include a scheduled stop at Santarém, Brazil, a city located where the Tapajós River meets the Amazon.

It’s a different type of destination from the Caribbean islands and coastal cities that feature heavily in Princess Cruises’ other itineraries. The Amazon is known for its tropical rainforest, extensive river system and wildlife, although sightings will naturally depend on the route and conditions.

For passengers who have been waiting for Princess to return to this part of South America, the new schedule brings back an option that hasn’t been available with the cruise line for more than a decade.

A New 64-Day Cruise Will Visit Antarctica, the Amazon and Panama Canal

One of the biggest additions to the season is a new 64-day Circle South America cruise aboard Coral Princess.

The voyage will take passengers around the continent, combining three very different cruising destinations in one itinerary.

Passengers will experience scenic cruising in Antarctica, travel along the Amazon River and cross between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through the Panama Canal’s historic locks.

Rather than booking separate cruises to see these regions, passengers will have the option to visit all three during one extended trip.

Princess is also offering shorter South America cruises for passengers who don’t want to spend more than two months at sea.

Majestic Princess will operate 17-day Antarctica and Patagonia itineraries, along with 15-day Cape Horn and Glaciers of Patagonia cruises.

Passengers looking to spend more time in South America can also book land extensions through Princess Cruisetours. These include visits to Peru’s Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, or Iguazú Falls on the border between Brazil and Argentina.

More Than 250 Cruises Planned Across the Americas

While the return to the Amazon is one of the biggest announcements, Princess Cruises has also confirmed a wide selection of sailings across the Americas for 2028–2029.

The Caribbean will account for 141 departures across 49 itineraries, ranging from five to 17 days. Cruises will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, San Juan, New York and Barbados.

Destinations include St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Cozumel, along with stops at Celebration Key, Isla Tropicale in Roatán and RelaxAway Half Moon Cay.

The Panama Canal program will feature 12 departures aboard five ships: Coral Princess, Crown Princess, Island Princess, Ruby Princess and Star Princess. The 16- to 20-day itineraries will include eight full ocean-to-ocean transits, meaning passengers will sail through the entire Panama Canal, traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans rather than turning around partway through.

Elsewhere, Princess has confirmed 35 Mexico departures, 14 Hawaii sailings, 18 California Coast departures and 17 Canada and New England cruises.

There are some new additions here, too. Princess will visit Îles de la Madeleine in Canada for the first time, while roundtrip Hawaii cruises from Vancouver are returning to the schedule.

Selected sailings will also include longer port visits and overnight stays, including additional time in Honolulu, Quebec and Cabo San Lucas.

Jim Berra, Chief Commercial Officer of Princess Cruises, said:

“There is an incredible diversity found across the Americas, and our 2028–2029 season gives guests an extraordinary range of ways to experience it.”

New Cruises Are Already on Sale

Princess Cruises announced that its 2028–2029 Americas season is available for booking, with an early-booking promotion running through February 16, 2027.

The offer includes up to $300 in instant savings, up to $300 in onboard credit and deposits of $100.

Eligible bookings can also receive early access to dining reservations and arrival groups, along with a complimentary room location upgrade. The exact benefits will depend on the booking and the promotion’s terms.

Passengers can check the new itineraries and available fares through the Princess Cruises website.

For those interested in South America, the return of Amazon River cruising adds another destination to consider, while the new 64-day voyage offers the chance to see several of the continent’s best-known cruising regions on one trip.
