Carnival Cruise Director Gabby Gamboa is no longer with Carnival Cruise Line.
The news broke on July 10, 2026, only days before she was due to rejoin Carnival Conquest for a four-month contract beginning July 17.

Gamboa had only been promoted to cruise director in April 2025 after working toward the role for years, and she had spent around five years with Carnival overall.
She confimed on social media that her time with the cruise line had come to an end.
“Just like that…here’s to the end of ship life. 5 years later and I’m forever grateful for the people that turned into family. For the moments that will forever be memories,” Gamboa wrote.
“I’ve given my blood sweat and tears, my heart and soul, but I guess sometimes it’s just not enough. Time to close this chapter and see what the next one brings,” she added.
The Timing Has Raised Questions
Gamboa had been scheduled to return to Carnival Conquest from July 17 through November 20, 2026.
During that contract, the 110,000-gross-ton ship was set to operate 3- and 4-night Bahamas sailings from Miami, Florida.
It would have been her second contract of the year. Earlier in 2026, she had already worked as cruise director on the 2,980-guest ship from February 15 to May 18.
Carnival’s cruise director schedule, which can change, now shows Filipe Mendez in the role through September 4, 2026, and again from September 28 to November 27.

Neither Side Has Explained What Happened
So far, neither Gamboa nor Carnival Cruise Line has shared the exact reason behind her departure.
Still, the wording of her social media message has led many cruisers to wonder whether this was really her decision.
Gamboa also shared an emotional video on social media, which opens with her visibly upset and the words, “blink and it changes in a heartbeat.”
People are definitely reading between the lines.
“From her announcement post, it doesn’t sound like it was exactly a mutual decision. I remember her as the Bingo Host on Celebration and enjoyed whenever she did activities,” one former guest wrote on Reddit.
“The way this is written, this was absolutely not a resignation. That is unfortunate and I wish her the best,” another cruiser said.
“Gabby, I sailed with you as Fun Squad and I knew you were going to move on to be a great CD. Remember there are other ships on the seven seas… Carnival’s loss for sure,” one Facebook user commented.
Fleet Cruise Director Lee Mason also left a supportive comment under her post.

“Wishing you nothing but the very best Gabs – wherever life takes you I know you will shine,” Mason wrote on Facebook.
Mason and Gamboa had worked together before, and in his fleet role, he helps guide and support both current and rising cruise directors across Carnival.

From Carnival Guest To Cruise Director
Gamboa’s story with Carnival started as a guest, not a crew member.
She was inspired after sailing on Carnival Vista in February 2020. After seeing the energy from the Fun Squad and the atmosphere onboard, she decided she wanted to become a cruise director herself.
She signed her first contract in 2021.
Over the next 3.5 years, she worked her way up through the Fun Squad on six different ships, helped with two inaugural ship launches, and served as acting cruise director on four ships before being officially promoted in 2025.
That made her rise a memorable one, which is part of why this news has hit so hard for some past guests.
Many took to social media to wish her well and say they’ll miss her friendly personality and the upbeat energy she brought onboard.
For now, there’s still no clear answer on why Gamboa’s time with Carnival ended so suddenly.
But with her next contract only days away, it’s easy to see why the news has left cruisers surprised.
