Norwegian Cruise Line Just Changed Two Big Entertainment Rules — And One Comes With a Hefty Fee

Norwegian Cruise Line has made two entertainment changes that could catch guests off guard. One adds a new extra-charge adults-only show to Norwegian Luna. The other removes a layer of pre-cruise planning that many NCL passengers had come to expect across the fleet.

Norwegian Luna sails at sea, showing the cruise ship’s colorful hull artwork from the front.

Norwegian Luna, the line’s newest Prima Plus-class ship, began sailing in March 2026 and is now at the center of one of those changes.

Norwegian Luna’s New 21+ Show Comes With a Fee

One of the biggest talking points is LunaTique: Pop Circus, a new adults-only show staged at The Improv at Sea. Instead of being treated like a standard included production, it is being sold as a premium experience, with current guest bookings showing a $44.99 per person charge.

That price includes four specialty cocktails, a souvenir glass, and gratuity. Guests who do not drink alcohol can request mocktails, but there does not appear to be a lower-priced non-alcohol option.

The setup makes LunaTique feel more like a late-night event than a traditional cruise show. It is limited, adults-only, and positioned separately from the ship’s main included entertainment.

Not Every Show On Norwegian Luna Is Paid

This does not mean Norwegian is suddenly putting all of Luna’s entertainment behind a paywall. The ship still has included productions and live entertainment such as Rocket Man: A Celebration of Elton John, HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder, Syd Norman’s Presents: A Tribute to Eagles, and themed parties like Island Nights.

The added fee is tied specifically to LunaTique, which makes it more of a premium nightlife-style option than a sign that all major shows are moving to extra-charge status.

Pre-Cruise Entertainment Reservations Are Also Gone

The second change is broader and may frustrate repeat NCL guests even more. As of April 1, 2026, the line is no longer allowing pre-cruise entertainment reservations across the fleet, which means guests now need to sort out show plans once they are onboard.

Until now, many NCL passengers were used to reserving select entertainment before sailing, especially on ships where popular productions could fill up fast. That gave guests a sense of control before embarkation and made it easier to map out evenings in advance. Now, entertainment planning starts onboard instead.

According to an update shared with travel advisors, the move is meant to give guests greater flexibility once they are on the ship, likely by shifting access away from pre-cruise planning and into the onboard experience itself. In practice, that could mean guests have more freedom to choose shows around their actual schedule once they embark rather than committing to plans days or weeks in advance.

Even so, some repeat cruisers are likely to see it differently, especially if they preferred locking in popular shows before leaving home and knowing those reservations were already set.

Some older wording still appears on parts of NCL’s website, suggesting not every page has fully caught up to the change yet. But for guests, the main takeaway is simple: entertainment is no longer one of those details they can neatly arrange before the cruise begins.

In practical terms, guests may need to wait until they board to see what is available, check show times in the app, and make plans once they are on the ship rather than before the cruise even begins.

What It Means For Guests

If you are sailing on Norwegian Luna, LunaTique is now something to budget for rather than assume is included. And if you are sailing anywhere in the fleet, entertainment is no longer one of those details you can neatly lock in before the cruise.

Taken together, the changes show Norwegian taking a more deliberate approach to how entertainment is packaged and booked. One introduces a new premium upsell on one of the line’s newest ships. The other takes away some of the pre-cruise control guests once had before boarding. Either way, regular NCL passengers are likely to notice both changes straight away.

What do you think of these changes? Would you pay extra for LunaTique?
