Residential cruise line Villa Vie Residences has introduced a new age-based pricing programme that lowers the cost of living at sea the older a guest is when they join.

The Villa Vie Odyssey cruise ship sails through calm blue waters under a bright sky, showcasing its white exterior, panoramic windows, and spacious decks. The mid-sized vessel is designed for long-term living and global exploration, reflecting the unique lifestyle of the Villa Vie Odyssey cruise ship.

The scheme, called Golden Passport, became available on 19th August 2025.

The line’s only ship, Villa Vie Odyssey, is currently on her inaugural three-and-a-half-year world cruise, a voyage that covers 140 countries, 400 ports, and visits 12 of the 14 Wonders of the World.

How Golden Passport Works

Golden Passport divides pricing into eight age brackets, starting at $99,999 per person for travellers aged 90 and over who book an entry-level Deck 2 porthole cabin.

The youngest eligible guests, those aged 55 to 59, pay $299,999 for the same accommodation.

Prices decrease across each bracket. For example:

  • Ages 70–74: $219,999 per person
  • Ages 80–84: $159,999 per person
  • Ages 85–89: $129,999 per person

Higher-grade cabins cost more, with a Deck 6 ocean view stateroom ranging from $199,999 for the oldest group to $399,999 for the youngest.

The fare includes meals, beer and wine with meals, housekeeping, medical check-ups, internet, laundry, and onboard entertainment.

But while medical check-ups are included, guests will still be responsible for their own medical insurance for any treatments needed beyond that – and that’s where guests in the older age brackets will see significantly increased costs.

Founder Mike Petterson said: “Our age-tiered pricing ensures that Endless Horizons is no longer just a dream for the few, but an attainable reality for many.”

Future Fleet Expansion?

While Villa Vie Residences currently operates only Villa Vie Odyssey, the announcement noted that Golden Passport is “transferable access across the Villa Vie Residences fleet.”

The wording has fuelled speculation that a second ship may be under consideration.

The 24,344-gross-ton Villa Vie Odyssey began sailing as Villa Vie’s flagship in October 2024, following refurbishment delays.

Built 32 years ago and originally launched as Crown Dynasty, the vessel previously operated as Braemar for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. She can host 929 passengers, though onboard numbers are currently reported to be under 200.

A Growing List of Programmes

Since its creation in 2023, Villa Vie Residences has continued to expand its range of ownership and rental plans. These include:

  • Endless Horizons, tailored for retirees seeking long-term stays.
  • Seasonal Ownership, offering 120 credits for $24,999 per person.
  • Tour La Vie, a one- to four-year membership starting at $49,999.

Golden Passport is the latest addition, designed to provide financial certainty for older travellers wishing to make the world their permanent home.
