When you think of cruising, you might picture massive ships packed with thousands of passengers, endless buffets, and a one-size-fits-all experience. But let me introduce you to a whole new world of cruising – Oceania. I had the pleasure of being invited onboard the Oceania Mariner, and let me tell you, this cruise line is far from ordinary.
It’s not a cruise line I had considered before, but now it’s definitely on my radar. Read on to find out why.

1. Gourmet Dining – A Feast for the Senses
Let’s start with what matters most to many cruisers – the food! Oceania is famed for its gourmet dining, and when you have world-class chefs like Jacques Pépin designing the menu, you know you’re in for a treat. The fact that they throw in speciality restaurants at no extra charge is just the cherry on top, or should I say, the béarnaise on your perfectly cooked steak?

When I went onboard the Oceania Marina, I indulged in a four-course meal that left me speechless – and trust me, that’s rare! It was, without exaggeration, one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
Sitting under the luminous crystal chandelier in the Grand Dining Room, I felt like I was in a scene from a film, only with better food. The dishes were beautifully presented and expertly cooked, and each course was a masterpiece of flavours. Oceania may just spoil your palate for life – consider yourself warned!

2. Smaller Ships – Big Perks
Bigger isn’t always better, and Oceania proves this with its mid-sized ships. These ships offer the perfect balance of luxury and intimacy, allowing access to ports that the cruise that other cruise lines can’t access. So, while everyone else is docking in the usual suspects, you’ll be exploring off-the-beaten-path gems.
The smaller size also means fewer people onboard, which translates to a more personal and less crowded experience. There is no jostling for space at the buffet or racing for a sun lounger at 7 a.m. (We’ve all been there, right?). It’s cruising the way it was meant to be—relaxing, elegant, and without the elbow wars.

3. Upscale, Refined Ambiance – Luxury Without the Stuffiness
Oceania Cruises has mastered the art of creating a luxurious experience without making you feel like you need to practise your royal wave. The ships are beautifully designed, with high-end décor that whispers sophistication rather than shouts it. It’s like stepping into a five-star hotel, but one where you don’t feel bad for lounging around in comfy clothes.
Onboard, the service is impeccable – attentive but never overbearing. You’ll feel pampered without being fussed over, which is ideal if you prefer your luxury on the relaxed side. Think of it as understated elegance; it’s less about formality and more about feeling at home while still living your best life.

4. Destination-Focused Itineraries – More Time to Explore
If you’re the kind of traveller who prefers exploring new places rather than just ticking them off a list, Oceania’s itineraries are designed with you in mind. They focus on offering longer stays and even overnight stops in some ports, giving you plenty of time to dive deep into each destination. No more rushing back to the ship only to realise you missed the best part of town.
Oceania’s ships dock in more intimate, lesser-known ports, which means you’ll experience destinations the big ships can’t reach. Whether it’s sipping wine at a hidden vineyard or wandering through quiet cobbled streets, you’ll discover unique experiences that will make your friends jealous when you return. It’s like getting a VIP backstage pass to the world’s best destinations!

5. Enrichment Programmes – Learn While You Lounge
For those of us who like to flex our brains as much as we do our wallets, Oceania’s enrichment programmes are a real highlight. Whether it’s art classes, culinary workshops, or insightful lectures, there’s always something fascinating going on between the sunbathing and the cocktails. You might even come home with new skills – perfect for showing off at your next dinner party!
Oceania’s workshops are taught by experts, so you can confidently say you’ve learned from the best, whether it’s cooking techniques or tips on mastering the art of painting. If nothing else, it’s a great excuse to justify that extra dessert – “I’m expanding my mind!”

6. Culinary Tours – Foodies, Rejoice!
If you’re the kind of person who plans holidays around meals (guilty as charged), Oceania’s Culinary Discovery Tours are an absolute dream. These excursions go beyond the typical sightseeing to focus on local food markets, hands-on cooking experiences, and, of course, sampling regional delicacies. It’s like travelling with a plate in hand – and really, isn’t that the best way to do it?
Imagine strolling through a local market in the Mediterranean, picking out fresh ingredients with a chef by your side, and then heading back to the ship to create a dish that perfectly captures the flavours of the region. You’ll feel like a local, even if your kitchen skills are more “beans on toast” than “Michelin star.” It’s an immersive experience that’s perfect for anyone who thinks that culture is best tasted!

7. Inclusive Value – No Hidden Costs to Sneak Up on You
Oceania Cruises understands that no one likes being surprised by a bill at the end of their holiday. With many amenities included in the fare – from speciality dining to non-alcoholic beverages and internet access – you can actually relax, knowing there won’t be any sneaky charges lurking in your inbox post-cruise. It’s like being treated to the finer things in life without constantly checking your bank balance.
And if you’re lucky enough to snag one of their packages, you might even get free airfare or shore excursions thrown in. It’s the kind of all-inclusive deal that makes you feel like you’ve outsmarted the system. With so much included, you can splurge guilt-free.

8. Focus on Wellness – Relax, Recharge, Repeat
If you’re in desperate need of some “me time,” Oceania has you covered with its focus on wellness. From sunrise yoga classes to their luxurious onboard spa, there’s no shortage of ways to pamper yourself into a state of zen. You might even leave the cruise healthier than when you boarded – though that four-course meal might say otherwise!

Oceania also offers wellness-focused shore excursions, like meditation in a tranquil garden or a scenic hike to get the blood pumping. It’s the perfect balance of indulgence and health, so you can enjoy that spa day without any guilt.

9. Well-Appointed Cabins – Where Comfort Meets Elegance
When it comes to cabins, Oceania doesn’t just settle for “adequate” – they aim for “wow.” Even the entry-level staterooms are spacious and elegantly furnished, with plush bedding and marble-clad bathrooms that make you feel like you’re in a high-end hotel rather than a cruise
ship. It’s the kind of comfort that might have you considering a career as a professional cruiser!

From the moment you step into your cabin, you’ll notice the attention to detail and quality of the furnishings. It’s designed to be your perfect retreat after a day of exploring or lounging.

10. Attentive Service – Where You’re Treated Like Royalty
One of the standout features of an Oceania cruise is the level of service that feels genuinely personal. With a high crew-to-guest ratio, you’re not just another face in the crowd; you’re treated like a valued guest. The crew goes above and beyond to ensure that every detail of your experience is perfect, from remembering your favourite drink to addressing you by name.
It’s the kind of attentive service that makes you feel pampered but not overwhelmed. You’ll get that extra bit of care and attention without any of the stuffiness that sometimes accompanies luxury. It’s like having a personal concierge, but without the “I’m too busy to chat” vibe – just warm, friendly service.

Oceana have the same advantages as Azamara. However, Ocean costs 35% more and does not include alcohol unless it is dinner time, I want to go on Oceana but I find it cost prohibited compared to Azamara. The claim to fame is that they have the best food on the seas. My friends who just sailed on Oceana, say there is not a big difference in the food. There is a higher crew to passenger ration on Oceana and they do have nicer ships. I really want to go on one of these Oceana crusies but that means i will have to forgo 2 or more other cruises to pay for a 10 day or more cruise on Oceana.
