What started as a laid-back afternoon on the lido deck quickly spiralled into chaos aboard Carnival Sunrise on Saturday, 7th June 2025. An altercation erupted among passengers shortly after the ship departed Half Moon Cay, partway through its 4-night Bahamas itinerary. Within moments, fists and chairs were flying.

What Sparked the Brawl?

The disturbance broke out at approximately 5:30pm near the ship’s popular Pizzeria. Social media footage captured the chaos as guests shouted, exchanged punches, and hurled deck chairs across the area. Screams rang out as others scrambled to get away, with what began as shouting rapidly escalating into an all-out fight.

Carnival’s onboard security team responded quickly and professionally, stepping in to contain the situation. Eyewitnesses reported seeing multiple guests detained shortly after the incident. One passenger claimed a man involved in the brawl had been confined to his cabin under constant guard: “The man is locked up in his room with security outside 24/7,” they wrote.

Carnival Confirms Lifetime Bans

Carnival Cruise Line later confirmed that all individuals involved in the altercation have been permanently banned from sailing with the brand. One guest summarised the consequences bluntly: “They will be locked in a room and get banned from Carnival.”

The cruise line maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding violence. As outlined in its Code of Conduct, disruptive passengers may face confinement, disembarkation at their own expense, fines of up to $500, and lifetime bans.

It remains unclear whether the guests were disembarked early during the final port call in Nassau on 8th June, or allowed to stay onboard until the ship returned to Miami on 9th June. Regardless, Carnival Sunrise completed its sailing as scheduled.

Pattern of Past Incidents

This is not the first time Carnival has faced onboard disturbances. In June 2024, a buffet brawl on Carnival Paradise went viral. More recently, in April 2025, a fight broke out in the Galveston cruise terminal during disembarkation. These incidents have led to growing scrutiny of passenger behaviour at sea.

The series of incidents has sparked wider conversations around cruise culture and alcohol consumption. In response, Carnival has updated its Cheers! beverage package to limit guests to 15 alcoholic drinks per day. The line continues to emphasise the importance of its Code of Conduct, which prohibits violence, excessive intoxication, and any behaviour that endangers the comfort or safety of others.

Final Thoughts

While the vast majority of cruises pass without incident, episodes like this highlight the importance of mutual respect and responsible behaviour. Carnival Sunrise has resumed its normal operations, but the guests involved in the brawl have taken their last cruise with the line. As always, don’t be that passenger.
