Before going on a Royal Caribbean cruise, it’s good to know whether the water is free and what other options are available. So, I’ve put together an article that goes into prices and where you can get water on the ship.

Is Water Free on Royal Caribbean?
Tap water is free on Royal Caribbean, along with flavoured water. However, if you prefer bottled water, this is not free.Â
It’s also important to note that there are also a number of other free drinks available on your cruise.
Is the water on a Royal Caribbean ship safe to drink?
The tap water is safe to drink on a Royal Caribbean cruise. The drinking water is either distilled from seawater or loaded onboard while in the port. Some people even say it tastes better than water out of a tap at home. However, you need to avoid drinking the water in any public handwashing stations, as this is not drinkable.
There are several places you can get this on the ship:
- When in a restaurant or bar, ask for a jug of iced water.
- Fill up a glass from the taps in your stateroom, however, sometimes it’s not very cold.
- Help yourself to water from the dispensers in the Windjammer buffet.
- There are water dispensers dotted around the ship, so you can grab a drink as you need to.
However, Royal Caribbean ask you not to fill up your personal water from the dispensers, as this is not sanitary. Instead, they recommend that you use one of the clean glasses provided and then pour it into your bottle.

Flavoured Water
Flavoured water is also included in your fare. There are usually two flavours available, which are similar to a fruit cordial or squash. They are available in the Windjammer buffet.
I quite like them, however, my young daughter wasn’t so keen. So for her, sometimes we bring along a squeezy juice cordial and add it to the tap water. And better still, as they’re so small, it easily fits in my handbag.
What bottled water does Royal Caribbean have?
Evian is the bottled water that Royal Caribbean uses. If you prefer to drink bottled water, you won’t be able to get this for free on the ship unless you bring it on board with you. Royal Caribbean Cruise Line allows up to 12 standard bottles (17oz), cans or cartons, not exceeding 17 ounces each, per stateroom.
If you buy bottled water on board, it costs approximately $3. However, if you drink a lot of bottled water, there is a Water Drink Package that you can buy for $39 for 12 one-litre bottles or 24 bottles for $69, and they will be delivered to your stateroom.
Or if you buy a Deluxe Beverage Package or Refreshment Package, bottled water is included within this too. Note that it is not included in the soda package or the coffee package.
Wrapping It Up
On a Royal Caribbean cruise, you have various options to stay hydrated. Tap and flavoured water are readily available at no extra charge, while bottled water and beverage packages offer additional choices for a fee. Understanding these options beforehand allows you to manage your budget and ensure easy access to water throughout your cruise.
