Hundreds of Passengers Moved to Safety After Fire Starts Aboard Cruise Ship in Denmark

An early-morning fire aboard Amadea triggered an emergency response while the cruise ship was in Rønne, Denmark, on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The incident began in an onboard linen-storage space. As crews responded, 320 passengers were relocated to another deck on the ship.

Bornholm Police had initially described the action as an evacuation from the vessel, but later clarified that the passengers remained on board.

No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

Emergency Crews Put Out the Fire in About 10 Minutes

Bornholm Police recorded the alarm at 7:21 a.m., and responders were sent to the harbor.

The situation was brought under control quickly. Roughly 10 minutes after the alert, the fire had been extinguished and officials said there was no longer an immediate threat.

Passengers affected by the safety response were reported to be in good condition.

Amadea’s Crew Helped Firefighters on Board

Bornholm Fire Service and the Danish Emergency Management Agency took part in the response at the terminal.

Amadea’s crew helped move passengers away from the affected area and guided firefighters through the ship so they could reach the location of the fire without delay.

Emil Gørløv, the Bornholm Fire Service incident commander overseeing the response, credited the ship’s crew for its handling of the situation.

“They did a fantastic job evacuating the ship, and they gave us good guidance so we could quickly find our way around on board,” Gørløv said.

Staff from Rønne Port supported the operation on shore by guiding emergency vehicles toward the berth.

Police Are Looking Into the Cause

After the immediate emergency ended, investigators began working to determine what had started the fire.

Officials examined the part of Amadea where the incident occurred, and the cause had not been established in the information available at the time of reporting.

The cruise ship measures about 193 meters from bow to stern and is listed at roughly 29,000 gross tons. The vessel carries a maximum of 570 passengers.

Amadea was alongside in Rønne when the fire occurred. Rønne is the main port on Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea.
