Boarding a cruise usually feels like the hard part is over. Bags are dropped, kids are excited, and everyone is already planning their first dinner, show, or pool run.
For guests on Disney Adventure’s May 7 sailing from Singapore, that first day took a very different turn.
Disney Cruise Line canceled the four-night Disney Adventure cruise after passengers had already boarded the ship at Marina Bay Cruise Centre. Guests spent the night onboard before being told the following afternoon that the voyage could not go ahead because of a mechanical issue.

The Disney Adventure is Disney Cruise Line’s newest and largest ship, and it only began sailing from Singapore in March 2026. Its short three- and four-night cruises are built around the ship itself, with no port stops, so a technical issue onboard can quickly become a much bigger problem for guests.
Guests Were Told the Cruise Could Not Continue
Disney Adventure had been due to sail from Singapore on May 7 for a four-night round-trip cruise. Instead, passengers remained in port while engineers worked on the ship.
Several updates came from passengers who were onboard during the delay.
One guest wrote on Reddit: “After embarking the cruise yesterday, we were informed by the captain that the cruise is having some technical issues and engineers are working and that we will set sail soon.”
By the afternoon of May 8, the plan had changed.
The same guest later added: “Today at approx 2pm Singapore time the captain announced that they are cancelling the adventure.”
The guest said the cancellation was “really disappointing especially if vacationing with kids.”
Disney Cruise Line also delivered a letter to guest staterooms confirming that the sailing would not continue.
In the letter, Disney Cruise Line told guests: “We are truly sorry to let you know that we are unable to proceed with your Disney Adventure experience from May 7-11, 2026 as planned.”
The cruise line also said that “your safety and comfort as our guests are always our highest priority.”
Guests were told to pack their belongings and wait for luggage tags before leaving the ship. Disney also made complimentary WiFi available so passengers could start changing flights, hotels, and other travel plans.
Not exactly the kind of onboard freebie anyone hopes for.
Disney Did Not Publicly Confirm the Exact Fault
Passenger reports suggested the problem may have involved propulsion, but Disney Cruise Line has not publicly confirmed the exact fault.
In a statement reported by FOX, Disney said: “The Disney Adventure remains in port in Singapore as our teams continue to address a mechanical issue. As the issue has not been resolved in the timeframe required to start this voyage, this current sailing has been canceled.”

The company added: “We apologize to our guests and are working with them directly to provide support for their travel needs.”
That wording matters. It confirms a mechanical issue, but not the more specific cause being discussed by passengers online.
For a new ship, any mechanical problem is going to attract attention. Disney Adventure is a major ship for Disney Cruise Line, not just because of its size, but because it marks the company’s first permanent cruise presence in Asia.
Disney Offered Refunds, Hotels, and Travel Help
Disney Cruise Line said affected passengers would receive a full refund for the canceled cruise, along with refunds for unused onboard purchases such as internet packages and other pre-paid services.
Guests were also offered 50% off a future Disney cruise, plus a complimentary hotel stay in Singapore.
The support package also included help with flight change fees and up to $500 per stateroom for incidental costs. Passengers were later moved from the ship to hotels around Singapore by shuttle.
For guests who had flown to Singapore for a short Disney sailing, that support would have helped with the immediate scramble. Still, a refund and hotel room don’t undo the disappointment of a vacation ending before the ship has even left port, especially on an itinerary built around the ship itself.
Guest Reactions Were Mixed After the Cancellation
While the cancellation was clearly frustrating, some passengers said Disney Cruise Line appeared to handle the situation well once the decision had been made.
One Reddit user described the disembarkation and hotel transfer process as “a highly logistically organized chaotic situation,” as guests were moved from the ship to hotels around Singapore.
The Reddit user also shared an image showing the hotel information guests received after arriving at Fairmont Singapore, including dining credits, breakfast times, and facilities.

“This has been a pretty seamless experience,” the passenger wrote on Reddit. “At the hotel there was a team waiting for us to answer all our questions and help us get a (second) dinner (Disney paid).”
The passenger also said Disney had provided a $200 hotel credit, in addition to the wider compensation package already offered to affected passengers.
Not every passenger described the process as smooth. In a separate Reddit thread, one guest said they waited for hours after the cancellation announcement before receiving official instructions.
According to that passenger, the cancellation was announced at around 2 p.m., but they did not receive hotel details until 12:10 a.m. They also said they were still waiting in a shared shuttle after midnight and did not expect to reach their hotel until after 1:30 a.m.
The passenger said only a small number of crew members appeared to be assisting a long queue of guests, which added to the frustration.
Overall, the passenger accounts point to a complicated response rather than a simple one. Some guests said the hotel support was well organized once they arrived, while others described a long wait to get there in the first place.
Disney Adventure Returned to Service Days Later
The disruption did not appear to last beyond the affected sailing.
Disney Adventure returned to service for its next cruise from Singapore after the mechanical issue was resolved. A Disney spokesperson told FOX Business: “The Disney Adventure departed as scheduled on its next sailing after the mechanical issue was resolved.”
That will come as a relief to guests booked on later sailings, though it will not do much for passengers whose May 7 cruise ended before it really began.
